Our adventure for this weekend brings us to Ravinia Park to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra. I’ve been looking forward to this since the weather has been mild and I absolute enjoy the picnic setup and music. My husband and I usually purchase lawn seats for $17 each, so we can have our fancy picnic setup on the lawn. We opt to take the Metra Rail for $7 each round trip instead of driving since its quite a trip out, about 21 miles north outside Chicago. Since its very inexpensive to get to Ravinia, I go all out on the food, bringing a variety of cheeses, beef tenderloin, shrimp cocktail, fruit, bread, and of course, sangria, champagne, and juice. We are not alone in the fanciness of picnic setups; our picnic neighbors have added candles and crystals to their tables.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was quite impressive. My husband is a big fan. I highly recommend listening to their music; it’s powerful. The first time they performed in Chicago was in 1893 for the World Fair. They’ve been to Chicago seven times and tour every other year nationally. The 360 member choir and 100 or so staff members are volunteers and all the proceed go to their church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are well known for their performance on the 2002 Olympics and has performed for ten US presidents.
